Momba, short for “Mom-robot,” is a machine stocked full of shampoo, clean shirts, laundry detergent, soap, and just about every daily essential that a student might have forgotten to pack during their last trip home. Duque said that his inspiration for creating the machine came from “being a dirty college student.” While these machines may not completely eliminate the population of stinky students on campuses, there is something to be said about a vending service that can replace the campus store during late-night hours. The first Momba machines, which also dispenses earbuds and phone chargers, have been installed at Harvard and Westfield State University, with plans to expand in the future.
